This was a remount of a show that the Player company had done back before I was hired as the designer in residence. The masks were all made for the previous performance, but I painted and touched up them before our tour (mainly because of the usual wear and tear from the last tour.) I decided to redesign all of the base clothing. Any of the Greek chitons, dresses, capes and shawls, were patterned/cut/stitched by me.
Wanting the show to have more of an "authentic" Ancient Greek period feel to it, it seemed like the best way to take the design.
I wanted everyone's base costume to have very little to no color to it, aside from some dyeing to make them look a little less flat, just because i really wanted the masks and the capes to provide those very strong pops of color.
